About the podcast

Our First Page Podcast by Sujaya Devi

Our First Page is a podcast about beginnings. This podcast was inspired by cultural identity, goal setting, and personal growth. Our First Page is hosted by content strategist, author, and professor Sujaya Devi.

Episodes start with the inspiration behind the podcast: Sujaya’s two books – Devi(l): Poetry and Prose (2021) and Write Left: short stories (2017). From there Sujaya discusses topics that inspire the early stages of projects, understanding self-identity, competition, story-telling, failure among many other lived experiences that creatives, entrepreneurs, and artists face throughout their journeys.

The second season invites the podcast’s first guests. They share their beginnings, their successes, and their advice.

About the host

Hey, it’s Suj (or Sujaya Devi if you plan to Google me). I’m most commonly referred to as the mom friend of the group. I suppose I’ve earned that title since I’m a bit older than my Gen-Z friends while being the youngest of my millennial circle. Being one foot in between both generations is why I keep the term zillennial in my back pocket.

My early-year screens involved Mario Party and Nintendo 64’s. I was Princess Peach every time, yes. Thanks for asking. I was the Tumblr type and an iPod Video girl. I love digital things especially when they’re pretty.

I’ve since made a career for myself teaching young and aspiring college students in media where to begin and how to communicate their ideas using technology. Don’t let this convince you that I have it all figured out, because I don’t. What I do have figured out is how to make sense of things that… don’t make sense. My strategic ideas have led me to become a content strategist, professor, author, podcast host, and lifelong student. I also make time for pretty nails, because… balance.

After working for six years as a professor, and publishing two books, I was equal parts confused and ready to learn. I came back to school; a third time. Now living the student-professor life, I’ve learned that it’s okay to explore our creativity and to follow where it leads us, but it’s not okay to sideline those things forever in hopes that we’ll circle back to it someday. I made this website for those of us who are in between, ready for change, but unsure of where to begin. Whether it’s our education, mindset, or lifestyle, I hope that Our First Page will be a safe space for the in-betweeners to tap in.
